Tỷ lệ số lượng Cổ phiếu trên 1 đường trung bình là một chỉ báo độ rộng đo mức độ mạnh yếu của chỉ số cơ sở. MA20 được sử dụng cho khung thời gian ngắn hạn, MA50 or MA200 dùng cho khung thời gian từ trung hạn đến dài hạn

Chỉ số mạnh lên khi phần lớn các Cổ phiếu trong 1 chỉ số đang giao dịch trên một đường trung bình cụ thể. Ngược lại, chỉ số yếu đi khi phần lớn cổ phiếu giao dịch dưới 1 đường trung bình cụ thể.
